Type in the word "depression" on Google Trends, and this is what you get:
The same pattern repeats itself year after year; searches for "depression" skyrocket through the winter and founder over the summer. Pretty crazy.
By the way, Chicago ranks third for the number of searches of the word, with Philadelphia at number one. Folks come to Chicago from all over the world for lots of reasons, but the weather surely isn't one of 'em.
Whats interesting is that when you type in "drugs" the graph's almost identically correlated with "depression".
Why wait in line at the doctor's office when you can pay a visit to your local street pharmacist for some DIY self-medication?This is where things get a little weird. Beer might be derided as the "legal drug" but it sure doesn't fit this pattern. In fact what you get is a slightly less dramatic but still clear opposite correlation.
Why would drugs line up with depression and go the other way with beer? Enquiring minds want to know!
